I keep seeing pictures and reading about peoples Dat's but I don't know what that stands for. I want to look up information on the fish but I don't know what the actual name is for these beasts.

Datnioides is the genus. They are within their own family Datnioididae in the order Perciformes (perch-like fishes). There are five recognized species of Datnioides:

Datnioides pulcher -- Siamese tiger or widebar datnoid
Datnioides microlepis -- Indonesian tiger or Indonesian datnoid
Datnioides undecimradiatus -- North Thailand tiger or thinbar datnoid
Datnioides polota (formerly quadrifasciatus) -- silver datnoid
Datnioides campbelli -- New Guinea tiger or New Guinea datnoid

They are commonly known as "tigers" or "tigerfish" in Asia and "datnoids" in the U.S.

ignorance is bliss. Ever since i first saw one on here i had to get one. Good luck finding one.

wanna take the opportunity to ask this...

i know these fishes are pretty much on the costly side, but assuming location, health, and sizes are the same...
which Dat species would command the highest price?lowest price?

I think the Thinbars are the lowest price, but it depends on size. The Indos are cheap right now if you buy them small.

so for a 1" IT, 1" Thin Bar, 1" Wide Bar, 1" NGT, and 1"Silver, the cheapest would be the thin bar?
and next is the Indo?
between the wide bar and the NGT, which one is more expensive?
or is this ranking incorrect?

I think it's ST,NGT,IT,CT,NTT...the most expensive being the ST the original 3 bars down to the cheapest being the NTT or the ones flooding the LFS here in the phil. priced at 7 bucks for a 2 incher..
