i have a ten gallon cold water/native speices setup with just 4 baby bullhead cats, what is something that can go in there with them? im looking for a non bottom dwelling fish. the fish will eventualy be put in a pond next summer so size is not a large issue.

I'd say you are full. Next summer is a long ways away for 4 bullheads to be in a 10 gallon. Those fish can grow quickly. Get a bigger tank and through a couple sunfish in there.

:iagree:
I don't even know if you should have 4 bullheads in there now. Doesn't sound good though. I would maybe get a 20 long or a 29gal. something to make it through the winter.

a green sunfish would do well with them because they are also very hardy, but 10 gallon is not large enough, your going to need atleast a 55 gallon. but even then i have grown bullheads pushing 3 pounds, they eat anything possible

Since they have longer growth months in the aquarium, expect them to be 5 to 7 inch long next spring. So your tank are already full. And get 125+ gal to house your bullheads next fall. And no tankmates.

thats actually a pretty good estimate, unless he limits their food intake or keeps them on frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp. if he goes with live bait its all over lol

I will never own any bullhead again ever. When i was newbie, i have five bullheads in 10gal when they were 2 inch long. Three months later, they were 5-8 inch long and i only feed them with flakes, shrimp pellet and dried krills! Not only this, they spawned in my 10gal! I have no idea how i did spawn them but i did kept the tank outside around early spring, That was 7 years ago. Yellow bullhead are worse than black bullhead as they can grow up fast.

what do you mean "when" you where a newbie. You haven't been here that long, and im not saying this to be mean, im just saying that your knowledge about the hobby now will triple in a matter of months. mine sure did, but i still consider myself a noob. i have a lot yet to learn.
As for your bullheads, what kind where they? what do you mean you kept it outside? was the spawn successful?

just because he's only been on the site a few months doesnt mean he's been fish keeping a few months, which is what im sure he is referring to

Yeah, I've been here for about 2 months, but I got my first fish as a pet about 17 years ago. I've been caring for my own tanks for over 12 years. I've even been a moderator on another aquarium site for over 3 years. Time on this site has nothing whatsoever to do with fish experience....Like he said-that was 7 years ago
