I think one of my HRP's has internal parasites, he eats at every feeding but continues to have a very sunken belly. He has been like this now for a couple weeks, still actively swimming and acting normal. Just looks bad

I can't see how the salt could be helpful.
if your fish has got worms u have to fed him with garlic.

otherwise if doesn't help you have to add to your tank some intestinal antibiotic based on metronidazole.

if caught in time u can save your fish.

He isn't exactly sure what is yet or how to treat it. Salt and temperature is always a good first step. Your right though, it isn't enough. Before we go off telling him exactly what it is or what medicine to use, we should identify it for sure. Garlic is great first step too.

To the OP, you should have started this thread as soon as you noticed a problem, hopefully it's not too late...

..sunken belly means for sure intestinal parasites.
IMHO I think u have to start immediately to think about an antibiotic with metronidazole.
Garlic too.

Do this and bump up the temp then. NOW!!

Ya I had bumped the temp up to 88-90 for a week with no change in his appearance. I haven't noticed any white stringy poop either.

Then I highly doubt it's internal parasites. PM oddball or guppy for a better identification.

BTW, antibiotics are NOT used for parasites!

Hold on hold on if your thinking parasites why are you talking antibiotics.Antibiotics deals with infections fungal or bacterial and does nothing to parasites.-Anne
Anne knows best.:D

I mean hexamita (***ellated protozoan). they have to be fought with Flagyl (intestinal antibiotic for human use).
sometimes the white stringy poop doesnt appear, but the sunken belly is a clear symptom.
