I've been noticeing tanks with duck weed in cichlid tanks? Is it a persoal preference or is it good for cichlids?

i dont see how duckweed could be "bad" for fish...but they might eat it

It just clogs filters really well... I run sponges on my intakes on my tanks w/ duckweed.. otherwise it's daily use of an old toothbrush to clean off the duckweed.

It Grows fast, provides cover, removes nitrates plus i have herd it can be a supper food for fish that will eat plant matter, containing up to 43% crude protein, 5% lipids and a highly digestible dry matter. i have seen it grown outside then frozen into blocks to feed during cooler months.

My fish don't eat it, but it makes the tank have some shadows, which seems to make them less shy, plus it's about all that will grow under my crappy lights lol.

Try water lettuce for a more manageable approach. Less clogging, larger plants that still provide good cover and also hang roots down. Does very well in tropical and survives in colder water.

Duckweed = the devil.
