So far this season all I have caught is a few baby fw drums and also a few baby stripers in the cast net. Was hoping for some baby longnose gars but so far it has not happened yet.

You'll probably get more useful responses re-posting in the fishing forum:

Having said that, I am quite interested to see what has been being pulled in this time of year as well! I would like to employ a cast net to try and gauge the hatch of Cyprinus carpio in one of my favorite local lakes. I believe the ever increasing number of Eastern Europeans sourcing them for food is drastically decreasing the already quite small population, as well as having a direct impact on average size.

Where do you live? I'd love to catch and keep a drum but all the ones I catch with rood and reel are to big to adabt well to tank life IMO.

Lots of carp and bluegill down in AZ. Occasional lmb. I like catching the carp and bluegill. They make excellent flathead live bait.

Up in Washington I can't use it on my Lake, but in other local bodies lots of perch, lmb, smb, sunfish, and the occasional squawfish aka Northern Pike minnow.

I am in Georgia and I probably would have more luck finding baby fw drums than baby longnose gars. Recently I missed a baby longnose in the cast net.
I have friends who have kept the fw drums in the past they said they love night crawlers when it comes to feeding time. i wouldn't mind keeping them and putting them in a monster pond as they got bigger i think it would be pretty cool i like the way the look and esp the bluish sheen in the sun light they have.
