I got a male GT, hes about 8 inches, healthy, eats lots, has very nice color. I bought a female Gt about 1 month ago for him(second female in 5 monthes). She wasdoin fine for a few weeks and now i noticed stringy white poo hanging. The other female i had before this one was having the same problem. I always do weekly water changes with proper water conditioners and vac and suck from the bottom. The first female that started doin this ended up not eating and completly stopped after awhile and refused to eat. This one seems to be losing its appetite now. The male has always been good, no problems with him, no white poo, he always eats. I really dont know what to do anymore. When i first threw the new female GT in, the male would shake at her and she would do it back, but now, she always likes hiding and seems to be eating less. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

sounds like an internal parasite problem; when my fish have had this problem, I have been able to cure it with metronidazole; the medication I like is Jungle Labs Parasite Clear, but API General Cure is also effective. also strongly recommend you isolate the female GT in a quarantine tank a.s.a.p.

I have seen other threads where people have said this is a common problem with GTs, and that once they reach a certain point they are too far gone. I dunno about that, but I would try either the Parasite Clear or the General Cure to see if that helps . . .

So what can i do? The male seems to hav a good appetite but the female stopped eating now and has a long stribgy white poo and i know its not good but i need to know whats causing this. This is the second female to do this to me. And i cant really quarantine cuz i dont hav an extra tank right now. It

sounds like internal parasites to me, get some jungle parasite clear and treat the tank, will be harder now thats shes stopped eating but as long as she still has some weight on her it should be fine just treat it as soon as possible

Def. internal parasites - Jungle Parasite clear with Praziquantel will clear it out. I would treat the main tank and tankmates because eggs could've already been ingested by the other fish. Water change 50% - remove the carbon, remove the filter media and throw both away as eggs could be on the media. Double Dose of Prazi. 1st full dose - 48 hours later change 50% of water another full dose. 48 hours later 50% water change - replace with new carbon and new media and cross your fingers she starts eating again. - Best of Luck!

i've used praziquantal (Prazi-Pro) and metronidazole depending on the problem...but if you're going with metro, look into some of the foods that have the meds as an ingredient.
