I'm a long time hobbyist that been in the hobby will over 30 + years, hoplias aimara was and still one of my favorite species of fish I bought my first one will over 13 years ago, but back then there was a lot vendors selling black wolf fish as aimara because true aimara where very hard to get and very expensive the black wolf fish was also unknown so they call them goliath wolf and pretend they where true aimara, until hobbyist realize the only true aimara had the black dot on the opercular membrane on the side of the gill, and that was and the only true way to know for sure a true aimara, so what that been said, in the few past years I have been seeing aimara for sell from vendors and from other hobbyist on this site and other social media site that are selling suspose aimara without the black dot on the gill plate, so please help me out and inform me if this species has morph or change because the black dot is there from birth to full grown and it don't fade away. Please any input will help

The spot should be there. If not then a stressed out fish or hidden from variation in color.
