Hi, I'm new here. A friend told me about this website and I thought I'd try it out. Just last month I notified one of my goldfish’s (Cheeto) mouth was staying open. My husband and I assumed there was a piece of gravel stuck inside his mouth, so we tried to get it out, but there was nothing there. We did our normal water and filter changes. His mouth was still open. Then a few days ago, his mouth started to get red and it's still open. I've read online for help, but I'm not entirely sure what to do. He has been quarantined from my other fish. And please, not hate comments. I'm trying to do the best I can with what I have since I hardly have any income. E6E83A0F-3286-44B6-9C04-75B008AF934A.jpeg

Could be duck lips. In that case can try some kanamycin.

You don't think it's mouth rot?
Could be part of it but mouth should close if it’s just mouth rot. The kanamycin should help with fin rot as well. Try the medication.

Agree about the possibility of duck lips (columnaris).
What is the water temp? Are you using a heater (room temp is adequate for goldfish)
Columnaris becomes most virulent, faster, at higher temps.

I'm not using a heater at the moment because I didn't think I had to use one. I've read online before that the temperature should be between 72-82. Mostly the temperature stays around 78 degrees.

Where would I find that at? I've searched Amazon and what comes up is Kanaplex. Is that it?

That’s it.

I can’t seem to keep the ammonia out of the tank. I just changed the water yesterday and it’s so cloudy and has white foam in it. I’ve treated the water yesterday with stuff that is supposed to remove ammonia, but it’s still there. How do I get rid of it?

How old is the tank? What’s ur water change schedule? Sounds like a bacterial bloom. Maybe a mini cycle. I’d do a big water change at least 50% twice a week and start today. I’d add a dose of seachem prime now and with every water change to control the water.
