Hello I jsut picked up a couple small( not for long ) exCichlasoma pearsei . I was wondering if bocourti woul d be too aggressive in the long run to be tank mates. How about vieja synspilum? Or maybe some robertsoni. I could maybe get som e synspilums or bocourti, the robertsoni i itnhk are sold out . There is some argentae and regani left though
Thanks
Tim

Who are you looking to buy from? I would go with either robertsoni or bocourti. Syns would dominate the pearsi IMO. I could see a conspecific aggression thing developing between bocourti and pearsi though; just speculation.

Robetsoni would make a good tankmate for Pearsi. I had problems when I had my Pearsi and Bocourti together. I've had good results with Robersoni, Altifrons, Nics, Thorichthys, just about anything thats not too aggressive but can hold its own. One of my favorites so good luck with yours. I also think if your tank is big enough you could have a Vieja Regani with a Pearsi. That would be an awesome combination.

I tried mixing bocourti with pearsei and it didn't work out, too much aggression considering the relationship between both species...I'd go with robertsoni, or larger specimens of some of the smaller species

The tank is a 6 foot by 18" tank.... I have 8 small synspilums already, but i may go pick up som e regani. Would argentae most likely be to rough for the pearsei?

Here's my experience. I have 3 Pearsi and 3 Bocourti. The largest of each is 10" with the other 4 at only 4-5" each. All in a 300g. The larger Bocourti is the dominant fish and pushes the Pearsi around quite a bit. I wouldn't recommend you getting the Bocourti. The Regani may work. I used to keep a Hartwegi and Synspilum with my Bocurti and Pearsi and they beat the crap out em so i got rid of the Vieja.

I'd go with snooks

I'd also not mix synspilus with pearsei in that size tank. My synspilus bullied my pearsei around in a 180G when they were both 10". Robertsoni would be a good choice. Add a Dempsey and some clown loaches and call it a day.
