he im playing around with the idea of getting another lizard, i have a huge iguana already.

well anyway i would think a lizard or turtle is interesting with good personality. im not crazy about the idea of owning a snake, well anyone that i have to feed rodents too.

the size limitation is 30 gallon aquarium... if its really cool it can get a 55
i tend to like animals that takes to handling well, as im a hands on kind of guy.

what would you suggest?

My last snake lived for 10 years ans was a good pet but, I think he went blind because he would strike at anything in the end. So, I traded him for a russian tortoise, which is pretty much a bullet proof pet. They do good inside but, need a uv light. During summer I have them(male/female w/fingers crossed)in a cage in the backyard and feed them weeds and flowers all out of my yard. I'm thinking about a really nice tort but their like $200 and have more specialized needs. But, torts are fun!

Most of the handleable lizards with lots of personality are on the large side and need more floor space than a standard 30 gallon provides. If you could trade it for a 30 gallon Critter Cage (36"L X 18"D X 12"H) you could keep a blue-tongued skink, bearded dragon, or Uromastyx, any of which would be a good choice. A 55 gallon might be OK for beardies but is too narrow for the other lizards. You could keep a small group of Rankin's dragons in any of those tanks.

The only turtles suitable for a 30 or 55 gallon are mud and musk turtles, which are fun pets with lots of personality. How well they tolerate handling depends on the individual.

thanks for the replies guys, i will look into the turtles, but you did mention one animal i was thinking about already. a bearded dragon, how well do they tolerate picking up? how long do there nails get?

i can no longer pick up my iguana with out gloves as its nails are extremely sharp. even if doesnt fight me it just gripping causes deep scratches.

african fat tailed geckos are by far the most laid back animals I have seen other than tegus and beardies but both get too big for your tank
a 30 would be great for a fat tail
and now there are a few different morphs so you have more to choose from

Leopard geckos have a very similar temperment to fat tails. Mine were extremely laid back and didn't ever mind being handled once I had them a while. Their care is pretty simple as well. I've heard some people say they're boring, but I thought mine had some personality
