I was introduced to this forum by a friend of mine on another forum when I was searching around looking for info on DSLR's a few months ago. I'd like to say thanks to all the great contributors to this site that make it the great place it is, and helped me find good, solid information to help me with my decisions. Thanks to this site, and a few other photography sites, I upgraded from my less than stellar Sony P&S to a Canon 450D (I never have liked the XSi moniker..) Hah, and I thought that keeping fish was an expesive hobby! My first major purchase shortly after the camera was the Canon 100mm 2.8f Macro lens, and I thought my wife was going to faint. But she did feel a little better after I showed her the price of the 'profesional' lenses lol.

I'm hoping that dear ole' santa brings me a 430 speedlight flash for Christmas. I decided on the Macro lens first because for the most part I felt I could get more use out of the lens right now. I've had a blast over the summer running around outside with it taking Macro shots of whatever I can find, plus my fish.

I've read the manual cover to cover several times, read though a nice 'For Dummies' book a few times, and I still wouldn't conciter myself an amature yet. Hobbist photographer at best. I've had so much fun learning as this is my first SLR of any type that I've took serious (I had a 35mm Contax years ago, but never really got into it). I can look back over the past few months I've had the Canon and I feel I can see a big difference in the quality of photo's.

As for fish, I have 2 and a half tanks running now. Over the past few years I've left the African world and found love in SA cichlids. I've got a 65 gallon grow out tank, a 75 gallon SA themed tank that's planted, and a 2.5 gallon with plants and nothing else at the moment but will probably add some shrimp before weather gets too cold to ship.

I look forward to being part of this community even though I might not offer nuch in the way of advice or help to others at this point. I've got a small website with some of my better photo's on it at www.thefishcave.nethttp://www.aquatic-photography.com/forum/www.thefishcave.net .

Welcome to APF!
I tried to edit your post to make the link to your website work better, but I couldn't do it. I also had difficulty in getting your site to work, but I liked the aquarium shots that I did see.

Thank you everyone. I'll get some photo's up soon.

Alan, thanks for the assist, I didn't realize the URL came out like that. Shesh, I have no idea what's going on right now with my site, it was working fine when I left. I hope maybe my host is doing some server maintenance lol. Hopefully this will get resolved soon as I do a good enough job of my own of messing up my site that I don't need outside help :)

Eh, I don't know what was going on with my website. It started working about 30 minutes after I posted that last post. Maybe they had to change out the squirrels that run in the wheels? Here's hopeing they keep feeding them.

Thanks Chaitika. That's one of my favorite fish. I had four of them at one time, but the dominate pair decided that they didn't like the other one, then the pair went belly up, and now all I have left is this one who was the runt of the group. Right now from what I've read the nomenclature is back up in the air, so not sure what to call him. I just wish I had my SLR when the dominate male was around. He was three times as colorfull as this fella.
