Just wondering about these beautiful fish i stumbled upon. Might get one...eventually.
Pictures of your ornate bichirs are always welcome and appreciated!

they are lovely fish but i found them more secretive than the other bichirs i've kept so are not always on show especially when small

I've had one since this summer, and I find them to be the most attractive of the bichirs...only downside is that it isn't too active, but it is worth the purchase

Get one mate you wont regret it,i started with one in july now ive got two and two endlis, and they are all active so i suppose it depends on the individual fish, the ornates seem to do silly things more than the endlis such as sitting in stupid places

Cheers steve

So you'll know that you're going to need something bigger than your 75g.

Get one and you get the answer. :D

But you really need something bigger than the 75 ;)
I definently know that it won't last forever, but it will last me long enough to be able to buy a larger tank whenever needed. cheapest price i can find is $44.95 for a 3-4 inch bichir. is this too much? they are perfectly kept. they can be kept with senegals right?

nope its a fair price-Anne

Ornates are beautiful fish. They do have a tendency to be more docile than the other species but when they do swim around they just look majestic. Well worth the money.

They are slow growers so a 75 would be a perfect growout but start planning now for when you have to upgrade to a larger tank.

I love 'em!! I wish mine would have maintained the intense yellow. First pic is about 4" long, the other is from when it was around 12"
