Hello all, Im kinda new to the whole pirranah thing, but Im pretty interested in getting one. I've been looking at them alot and noiced that they seem to be savages and I wouldn't want that in one of my tanks lol. Im game for keeping it alone, but what's so great about them? I mean they seen to be scared of cichlids when it's one on one, they seem shy, and not very fun to watch. What got you ladies and gents into pirranah in the first place?

they are a amazing fish simply that

a cichlid and piranha one on one the piranha would almost definately win its just the piranha doesnt always know that and he would rather have some backup

more people will have better reasons why we have them in all its the love of the fish

So you're pretty much lookin to be sold on them? Most people get them for the wrong reason and end up disappointed. I say get them because you like the look of one of the species (same reason you'd get any other fish) or because you want to see for yourself what the fish that the media has portrayed as a monster acts like. Forget everything you've ever heard from the media and go into it with an open mind.

Ever since I went to the Cleveland Zoo and saw the piranha exhibit 3 years back, I knew I had to have them. I love how old the Piranhas are at the Zoo's aquarium, and how dark and big they get. They are just really interesting fish.

the appearence mainly and the behaviour.also the unpredictable nature.
most piranhas are not aggressive in the 'cichlid' sense of the term.they are just efficient as predators.there is no harassment of the tankmates unlike cichilds, its just goin ok..ok..till one day the tankmate disappears.
plus they are great looking.
but if you want an active and interacting fish, you should avoid piranha and stick to cichlids

The fact that I have seen these fish at local public aquarium since childhood and they are awesome, basically simple and elegant. IMO, they're not fast pacing fish, , some Serrasmus keeper do keep them years before maturity stage. Having these guys in your belonging remind you of the great Amazon river where they once roam wild and free...

just look at them, how can one resist these beauties.

That's what i'm saying, if you don't like the look of them, they're just not for you. They're not virocious creatures that you're feeding a bloody steak every night. lol.

There's pretty, colorful fish out there but the look of piranhas are irrestitable to me

I got out of cichlids for that very reason, they are way to aggressive to keep with some tank mates. I now have a Gar, ID shark, TSN, and a Delhezi, I have never in my life had a better tank going, the fish are just amazing. I love how they eat just about anything I toss in there. Now from what I heard is that Piranha just want to eat feeders. If this is true, I don't think they are right for me. I love their slick bodies, their color, as well as their speed. But U want a fish that I don't have to feed only feeders to. Is this myth true about them? Do they only eat feeders? Im basically sold, I just need people to tell me what the best species is, best food for color, and if so what tank mates could I toss with them?
