I don't think any deep water fish can be successfully kept in aquaria.

just found out its called an angler fish

The deep-sea blackdevil angler fish (Melanocetus johnsonii) would require a pressurized environment to 1) produce hormones and utilize amino acids correctly and 2) provide the proper environment/temp to sustain the bioluminescent bacteria in the glowing patches and lure.

However, as far as angler species go, there are many shallow water species that are easy to maintain in aquaria. Such as frogfish (also types af anglers). These just don't have the bioluminescent traits.

There are a couple of glowing species regularly available to the hobby. These are pinecone fish and headlight fish.

I agree with oddball. If you're looking for an angler...go with a frogfish. They may not have the bioluminescence that the deep water anglers have, but they do have the ability to alter their colors to match their suroundings.
