I have no knowledge or experience with these, but they seem like they are important for power outage or traveling.

Where is the best place to get these and best brand?

Any additional info would be cool and hopefully most take AA batteries, cause I got a bunch of those.

you can find them at any place that carrys fishing gear like walmart dicks they take 2 d batteries and there is no good or bad brand.i have 2 and i bought them from to different places and they were the same brand so

I use the Frabill fishing aerator from dicks. They cost about $25, and run on 2 D batteries. They really are handy and if you lose power for an extended period of time they are lifesavers.

I also have a Frabill 12 volt aerator That i got at cabella's for our boat. Its nice because if i need it in an emergency a use one of the cigarette lighter power outlets that are usually in a car, and hook it up to a car battery and the thing will run for like a week or two. The cigaratte lighter thing costs like 4 dollars at an auto parts store and you just need a little bit of wiring to have a long lasting aerator.

They are a nice insurance policy. About a year before I got into keeping fish I lost power for about a week after a bad storm. Thats why i went out and got these. I had a hard enough time keeping my reptiles warm. Thankfully my dad and uncle had 2 or 3 nice big portable generators that we ran my heat lights and a few other things on, so i would probably use those too if needed.

I don't know of any that run on AAs, however.

I say just use a large stick to swirl the water. Agitate them to keep the water oxygenated. Thats what I do during a power outage. But here in singapore, power outrage only last like 1~2 hours. So if you have like 24 hours outrage, good luck swirling.

lol. I can't imaging sitting at my tank swirling water during the week-long power outage I had a few years ago. It would work short time though.

Ha thanks, I would try that but I don't have access to any sticks. I'll go with the battery powered air pump.

I didn't even think of looking in a fishing section, probably be a lot cheaper there too.

Definitely cheaper. That's something i quickly learned with reptiles and fish. There is generally always a similar product used for something else thats half the cost and works just as well.

If you already have an airpump and want to have it as backup for a power outage try using a UPS. May cost a little more up front however at least these will go on automatically should power go out when you are not home. Small price to pay for piece of mind. Depending on the power consumbtion of your tank it may even run a smaller powerhead enabling you to have a 24hr backup should you ever lose power.

I have a Penn-Plax.....2 d batteries. works fine....sounds like a jackhammer!
