Im new to crays, and really shrimp(ive only kept cherrys and ghost for feeders for my gar), And i was wondering what the best beginner cray was. I would like a bright colored cray. I can go catch crays near me but would rather not. Most( i have seen one specimin bright red and another bright blue) and very borring brownish in color.
Also were could i get the crays anybody suggests?

If you want an easy to keep Aussie cray, get a Cherax Destructor (Blue Claw Yabby) or Cherax Quadricarinatus (Redclaw Yabby).. Very simple crays to look after...

Procambarus clarkii (these can come in bright reds, oranges, blues and whites), Procambarus alleni (these come in bright blues and whites), Procambarus acutus (these are not so bright but offer a wide variety of patterns). These are all very easy, undemanding crayfish to look after and care for. However, they are three of the more aggressive species... so while easily cared for, they're best kept by themselves.

how big can they get? any sites i can get them off of?

Destructors ~ 8 inches
Quadricarinatus ~ 14 inches +

Not sure where you can get them in your area. Try your LFS or an online dealer. Black_Sun will know.......;)

Procambarus species mentioned, in the neighborhood of 8in

eBay.com and Aquabid.com are good for finding crays. And I have a collected list of good and bad sites for purchasing crayfish -
http://thecrayfish.forumotion.net/online-purchasing-f5/

You'll find yabba's and my mentioned species (among plenty of others, like dwarf species which are also good 1st time crays) on those websites. And check out your LFS and bait shops, usually they have interesting selections of crays (or the ability to order them in for you. Places like Petco and Petsmart use Segrest Farms for stock, they have a lot of crayfish that can be ordered in by Petco/Petsmart for you).
