I plan to get a 155 bowfront tank & would like
to put in 2 Oscars, Dempsey, Green or Red Terror, Firemouth,Pleco,Bala Shark,&
3-4 Silver Dollars.
What would be the best filtration be?
2 Canisters @ 600 gph each?
2 Aquaclear 110's?
Or one of each?

Also, if I only get one canister @ 600 gph do both overflows run into
the one canister?

Does the tank have overflows built in? I love the AquaClear 500s ( now 110s ) and I have 18 of them. I would recomend that you keep all the hang on the back filter the same so you don't have to buy more then one type of filters and carbon.

I would recomend running a wet/dry instead of a canister filter.

A wet/dry may be your best bet in terms of performance and price, but in my experience with them-however limited-they are loud. If this is a show tank you're looking to set up, say in a family room, the incessant whining and drone gets really old, really quick.

What pump are you using on yours and how many gph is is. I have 3 wet/drys and I have found that some pumps are beter used in the fish room because of the noise.

Check this site out buddy you should be able to find what you need.

And you would certainly need a canister filter for the cichlids you mentioned as they do a lot of digging and stir up a lot of mess.

The LFS store sales them for $12 but they made the mistake of leaving the tag in one of them and I found a dist. that carried them ( you have to have a tax ID number to be able to order through them ) and I ordered a box of 50...smallest size they sell..... for about $3 each.

They are some kind of a water filter used in comercial filters but I don't really know what kind. I have been using them for about 6 months. You can spray them out with high pressure water and reuse them 4 or 5 times....they will catch everything including algee.

I made these holders for them because when they get full they overflow so the water needs to be able to go over the top without spilling on the floor. Shows how good of a job they do at getting all the junk out of the water.
