My juvenile Festae seem to despise their tank lights. They hide when the lights are on and their colors disappear. They only come out for brief moments. When the lights are off they swim around and interact with each other. Only then can I see their colors and patterns. I was wondering if there was a particular light that they would prefer so that I could enjoy them without keeping the lights off. I hope this is something they will grow out of as they become older and larger.

try using the nightime LED "moonlights" adds a cool blue tone to it and you can still see the fish when the big lights are off. i have used these before with RB piranha with great results

I like the look of a single spotlight. It tends to leave some of the tank in shadow, so the fish can retire to those areas if they prefer. Plus, the single spot looks very natural -- like sunlight through the trees.

I've never even thought to try that. Nice idea.
