dint understand that point.....
Blood parrots go very well..... walking catfish,,,,,, small plecos ..... spotted catfish......
these are some of them with my FH.....

Ah great clarias i love them.

Im only asking as this FH is going in a 6x2x2.

My missus has limited me to one tank.

I Just think it will look a little dull with just the one Fish.

Oh that point was im hoping to get a male out of my little batch.

Can they be sexed at 3-4"?

I guess it depends on the individual Fish?

They can be sexed at that age by a relatively experienced eye. If you can stick some pics up here, then we can probably sex them for you.

If you have a batch of six, then the biggest one, with the biggest kok will almost certainly be the dominant male which is most likely to turn out to be the most impressive bodyshape-wise, which I expect would be the one you would want to keep. Unfortunately, it is probably the fish which is least likely to tolerate tankmates in the long run.

As for tankmates, many people try, and most fail. Loads of people claim to have all sorts of success and then you find out that their FH is only about 4" long. When an adult male FH gets some size on him, you need a VERY big tank generally to get away with any tankmates. But, then again, it can be done. There are vids on youtube of people who manage to get an adult FH living reasonably well in a community.
Key thing for increased chances of success are to get them living together with the FH being as young as possible. I would suggest trying any species that would not be seen as food by an adult FH, but also species which will not challenge the FH for dominance at all. Also, need to be able to take a bit of stick at times too. The most common tankmates seem to be blood parrots. OK, if that's your sort of thing.

Pleco's, various cats & birchirs might work. Another problem you might get is that fish like that may well not be able to compete with a FH for food. FH's, as I suspect you are discovering, are greedy little blighters. A large slow-moving and feeding fish "might" struggle to get enough food, unless you were very careful about target feeding them, if that were possible.
Silver dollars are another species that might get on OK with a FH.

Greetings from SOuthampton BTW ! I grew up around Lewes, and spent most of my teenage years fishing off Newhaven East pier !

to find a tank mate for a flowerhorn youl have to ask it your self
you could have a FH that kills any thing that youy put in there or make friends with it
just dont put any thing smaller in there with it

But depends on the size of every fish...... clarius would fight back but stilll dont make the size of the FH so smalllll. ......
all the fish together would go into a 72 litre tank.......just try to calculate that......
just the one fish would make him alone as well as the tank would be very sleeeeeepy,,,,is wot i think......
do u have all the 6 fh's in one tank????

just have a look at how i have all of them i mentioned below ..........

Hey Hamfist i grew up in Newhaven lol i now live in Eastbourne.

I really like Flowerhorns but i think a 6x2 is too large a tank for a single fish that will likely only attain a foot or a little more.

I picked a guy i will show you pics in a new post tonight or tommorow.

Hes in a Trigon 350 currently and will be moved to his 6x2 when it turns up.

Hes really peacefull with my Datnoid and Huge Fire Eel so far.

I would really like to try him with a Silver Arowana, as i can get them cheap £29 and i know plenty of people who would love to take it off me if it went wrong.

Always worth a go if you have a plan B !

BTW, another thought as for tankmates - malawis !!!

Previously I had read of people having some success with these with FH's !

And in fact I had a mad 5 minutes yesterday and bought 4 cheap malawis to try out with my smaller FH. He spent the first 2 or 3 hours trying to kill them, and then he just seemed to accept them. They are all living very happily together at the moment !
And by golly, are those malawis are tough little critters ! They took some punishment from the FH but once he decided to accept them they were all up the front and feeding well, seemingly completely oblivious of the previously psychopathic maniac they had just been sharing the tank with only minutes earlier !
They seem like almost ideal FH tankmates (at the moment !). They are all much smaller than the FH BTW, although not small enough to be considered food.
