I'm planning on replacing marine sand with flourite substrate and was wondering, what is the best way to take out marine sand from a tank. If anyone has a technique or method they used before please share.

when i had sand i simply siphoned it out. took a couple of water changes but it did the trick with nothing stirrd up making a mess.

Thats the best way

I siphoned into a large container (30 gal Brute Can)and returned the water as I did it...
I took a 1/2" PVC pipe 24" long and used it on a hose to take water out and then put a powerhead with a hose on it to pump the tank water back.

When I was almost done I just dumped the last of the water and replaced it with fresh water...sand gone (200lbs.) w/c done at the same time...;)

Save the sand, it's worth money!
