whats the best way to remove that white deposit that develops on the top of the fish tank

Water and a good sponge. I have seen some people use a natural cleaner but I'm not sure how safe that is. I use a sponge with a scrubbing side and a little elbow grease.

Usually mineral deposits. If your tank is glass a razor blade works quite well.
