Michigan's UP
I bought both of my XP3's for $99 each, now they are like $180, even from Big Al's! Even heaters seen to be much more expensive then what I remember paying even a year ago!

Has inflation effected our hobby this much already?!:WHOA:

Inflation,weak dollar and strong euros

gas prices going up, EVERYTHING GOES UP.

Cost of transportation to get raw material to manufacturing - Increased
Cost of transportaion to get supplies (boxes, packaging material) to Mfg- increased
Cost of transportation to get finished goods to Distribution - increased
Cost of transportation to get the goods from Distribution to each store - increased

Get the picture ?

This is on a single product, think about the cost for the supplied (boxes, packaging and etc) from their own manufacturing...

It's a domino effect. It started with 1 thing. Raise in fuel cost.

I owned a distribution and mail order company for racing parts.

Our average bill for UPS in a month would usually run $8K - 10K per month LAST YEAR. This year is last month, our UPS bill was $ 10K and we're shipping 20% less package.

We charge a flat rate shipping fee and we're losing about $25-$30K a year in profits annualy. Which is quite a bit for small business owner like me.

Diesel is pushing $5.00/gallon, so shipping costs are through the roof. The Dollar is weak and getting weaker. Gold is at an all-time high. The price of eggs has gone up 40% this year. It's almost as though the economy is messed up.

Hmm, after some searching I found this, and other articles like it:

http://www.petage.com/news110702.asp

So not only inflation but the new minimum retail pricing guides are responsible for the "new" higher prices I see online.

Do a search. Just about every major e-tailer has about the same price for many filters, heaters, etc.

Hagen might have been the first to take advantage of the US Supreme Courts ruling that manufacturers can set their minimum retail price (August 2007: http://www.pida.org/newsletter/0907/legal1.htm), looks like maybe the others followed suit.

Crap.....
