whats the difference between a jag and a friedrichsthalii?

its just crazy how they look so alike with the exception of size and jags get way thicker but is there a distinct difference in personality and behavior or do they just display the same behavior. someone with experience please shed light on this
 
I think a lot of the parachromis exhibit many of the same behaviors. They all have the potential to be fairly nasty.

I feel u, freddies are pretty nice tho, I never seen one in person but the guy at my lfs says that theyre coloration is up there with Cubans and electric dempseys
 
They are pretty similar, and aggression depends on the individual fish. I hear Freddies can be more aggressive. I have no personal experience though. Jags do get much bigger though.

They evolved from the same ancestor(probably Cichlasoma woodringi of @25 million years ago), and as they radiated throughout Central America, geographical separations favored specific traits (slight color differences, attitude, etc).
Ad Konings has an interesting theory on this in his book "Cichlids from Central America", in it is a photo of the fossil cichlid C woodringi and is a fascinating read.
