I am currently trying to get my Chinese Perch on Krill and Pellets. For 5 days now I been trying. first 2 days he got 2 guppies on each day followed by krill being thrown in. He struck the krill a few times but spit it out. So I began to starve the fish and its day 3 now its had absolutely no food.

Now when I throw a krill or pellet, the fish lifts its head and looks at it then puts its head back down and looks right at me. All day the fish swims in front of the tank trying to get my attention so I feed it, once I grab a krill or pellet, and raise my hand over the fish to drop it, he backs up and waits for me to drop it rather than jsut biting what drops.

He used to take down feeders pretty much as soon as they hit the water. Thats why the first 2 days he hit the krill. Now the fish is being clever and waiting to see what I drop.

The fish has loss some weight so far. So I ask, how long have you guys starved a fish before?

Ive heard people say a few days or a week, ive heard some people say 1 or 2 months. I even heard 1 guy say he starved his Dat for 8 months! I thought he was Bsing, but then another guy posted he did the same. I know some of these people dont really havea reson to lie, but I wanna understand them better. Are they saying they give absolutely NO FOOD for 1-2 months or 8 months? Or is there small feedings in between? How do people know when they've gone too far and the fish die one day from not eating so long? Thats my concern, its like you can starve them but when do you know when its at a dangerous level and the fish might drop dead any day?

I go through threads about people getting fish off feeders, doesnt matter if its Knife fish, or Bichirs, or PBass etc. I figure all techiniques used for these fish can apply to any fish really.

I am also thinking of using a teacher fish if it has to come to that. I jsut dont know how long my fish can hold out for safely before dying of hunger.

I starved a mortally wounded jag for 6 weeks....She healed....(not just because of starving)

i starved a oscar for 2weeks until he broke. I was prepared to go as long as it took. The most important thing I have found is a good teacher fish to show the others what to do. And being rock solid on your methods. Don't back down and give it a guppy here and there cause you feel bad.-------------But i now have fish that for the most part are not replaceable to me so I breed my own feeders and use them.

What do you mean by that last part?

The parentheses? I mean I did absolutely rigorous water changes, kept the temp up, and added salt...In addition to starving.

I believe 1 week is the most I've ever had to starve my fish for while I went on a short trip. For feedings I believe the most I've done was 4 days before my fish gave in so I guess I got off easy. :P

Its been day 3 for me on starving. I jsut tossa krill or pellet in there now but the fish doesnt go for it. Im really hoping by starving it longer the fish will give in. But for how long could I starve before its dangerous? The teacher fish Idea is likely for me. I thought about a bala shark because theyre quick, I think another fish in there might get my fish mad and he will beat up or atleast try and get the bala shark. So maybe an oscar will be used since they arent picky. But then I worry about the oscar and the perch fighting. Who being the aggressor, I dont know. I certainly dont want my perch hurt.

The most I've gone has been 2 weeks, but my old CK once when on a fast for a month for some reason:screwy:
