I want to change from API stresszyme to the aquasafe brand as it is way cheaper. How do you change over without causing reations? I read a post that someone mixed/substituted brands and had problems

What are you using Stress Zyme for?

You shouldn't have any problem changing over, just don't use two different chemicals at the same time to avoid them mixing. If it's a few days or more between your water changes then there's nothing to worry about IMO.

If you're looking for better value water conditioner check out Seachem products. Prime is very good and Safe is even better value although a bit more difficult to calculate when it comes to smaller measures.

During water changes to maintain water quality. Is it not recommended to add? The instructions are different for a cycled tank as apposed to a new tank. i.e. half the dose for a cycled tank per 10 gallons.
I keep game fish where it may not even be an issue, but we have other tanks with cichlids. any advive would be great. I add stresszyme too after a water change, altho my fish dont appear stressed after a water change. Dont seem to bother them a bit. in fact they readilly eat right after a water change, and even watch me do my gravel vacs. if they had teeth Id be too scared to do a gravel vac LOL Maybe I dont need these chems?????Am I wasting money?

we do water changes once a week. 25% or so

Probably ;)

Using Prime or similar to treat your tap water is good, it will neutralise any chlorine compounds left in the water. Apart from that your fish shouldn't need anything else, as you have noticed they like the fresh water.

Prime seems to be the favourite water treatment because you dont need much, more economical. It doesnt promise to do anything magical, just treat the toxic crud in your tap water.

Cheers

Yes. Stress Zyme is supposed to be a bacterial product, but it isn't even that. It's snake oil. Ditch that product.

Question is a bit confusing because Stress Zyme (not to be confused with Stress Coat) has a different purpose to Aqua Safe.
I agree, ditch the Stress Zyme and go for a good water conditioner such as Seachem Prime (liquid) or Seachem Safe (granules).

we use stress zyme AND stress coat. We are also on a well...no chlorine in our tap water
