so i was looking at some fish in my lfs the other day and they were telling me some stuff about my fish that i wanted to come to you guys to verify. i currently have a 55g setup with a jaguar, a texas, a green terror, 2 silver dollars and a hi-fin spotted pleco. now they were telling me that my jag will end up getting 2-3 foot long, i mean knew he would get big, but i didn't think that big, how big will he get? also would these fish be able to coexist, as i plan to get either a 125 or 180 in the future, or will i actually have to get a 180 just for the jag and a 125 for everyone else?

i started of with a 55g n had aebjd,gt,mayan, gpleco, albino bichir,n a jaguar he grew so fast i had to give him away,my boy kept it n endedup cleanin up his tank only leaving a redtail catfish behind n him in a 55g,be carefull they get aggressive as older n quit an apitite to.the jag might wanna b alone or get her a mate n wrk from there you can do whatever you like.

A jag will get pretty big around 16 inches or so and are pretty beastly a Texas get around a foot but are a pretty solid fish ur gonna need at least a 180 for that stock those three fish shouldn't even grow out in a 55 that's a lot of bioload and agression

a jag 2-3 feet long? no, not quite but 14-16" is not all that uncommon for a jumbo male. you can try them all in a 180 but i would definitely want to have a backup plan because jags are hyper-territorial. :)

I have never heard of a jag getting over 18 inches , They should be able to coexhist however it does depend on the fishes personalities some jags are fairly mild mannered and some are just really aggressive , I would upgrade to at least a 180 but as in most cases go with as large of a tank that you can , keep in mind the bigger the tank you have the more odds you have of getting the to live together peacfully.

cool, exactly the info i was looking for, thanks. also, if i were to put the jag by himself and all the others in a tank together, what sizes would be good to use?

Keep them together-get a 125 gallon. I have a Trimac, RD, Barred Midas, Dovii, and a Red Bay Snook in my 240 and coexist fine. Just have a lot of caves-you should be fine.

One more thing it might be better to add 2 more SDs they are more happy in schools.
You might want to get rid of the pleco-just add more waste.

Most of what I had to add has been said. That pleco will get pretty big, too. I had one and it was a waste machine. With your stock growing up together you should be able to get away with the 180. Not every jag is a psycho killer, but territorial is the best way to describe them.
