What's this on my Gar's back?

odd, it looks like lymphocystis to me, but that is usually on the fins, etc...still, unless it gets worse i would not be too concerned. just provide more frequent water changes and increase water temp to 82F. this is a virus and so it can't really be treated other than with clean environment and letting it run its course. keep us posted if anything changes--

I have a wild caught FL gar that has a similar looking tumor. It started as a white dot and has continued to progress. Hopefully yours is not as severe.

Would you mind posting a picture for comparison's sake?
 
I just took a few pics and I couldn't get a clear focused shot on the tumor. It looks very much like yours just larger and recently has developed some discolored areas close to it. It doesn't seem to affect him at all at this point but at some point I'm thinking I may have to sedate him and attempt to remove it.

How long has your gar had this spot and where did you get the gar from?
 
I have had him approximately one month, and he has had it since I got him. I got him from a (decent quality) lfs.
