just answered my own question.. lol... google worked second time... its this

Pineal Gland
The pineal gland of fish and amphibians is located near the skin and functions to detect light.

basically a primitive eye, do all fish have this??

I had a quick read through those, thats odd that its visible on the irwini... maybe a reason for the slow growth experienced by most!? And their nuts get bigger dependng on the light lol, very odd, guessing too do with seasons..? Curious stuff, I will have a proper read tomoz as its midnight here!

Its function is MUCH more than merely light detection. It plays part in growth and hormonal processes and other things.

yeah off course, but i needed to validate my thread with that quick copy and paste lol... it actually reacts way slower to changes in the light i started to read, something to do with the length of days to detect seasonal changes maybe??? mind you does the amazon ever change/ have wetter part of the year or more fruitful?

Have you never seen shows on Amazon? You appear to watch a lot. Amazon undergoes an enormous fluctuation in precipitation and water level. Huge tributaries and flooded forests get reduced to relatively small pools teaming with all kinds of cramped fish with nothing to eat and awaiting the rainy season.

lol i was watching on last night, i know in africa its very variable... guess i remember the sloths having to swim now lol... been a long day! i caught the 6th episode of the 7 episode series off amazon abyss last night... gutted i now only get to see the last two!
