So my 180 is in the wall of my den, but the tank and sump are actually in the garage. It's been 95f+ all week and my tank is currently sitting at 86f.

The tank only has some blood parrots, Bala sharks, and a breeding pair of cons with fry currently so I think I'm on atm. It's supposed to cool down a bit soon.

It really depends on a few factors. The biggest issue is the hotter the water the less oxygen it'll hold. If you have a lot of aeration the fish should be ok.

That said I would set up a fan over either the surface of the tank or the sump. It really is amazing how much of a temp drop a fan can cause. You'll evaporate a lot of water doing it, but you can drop your temps down to a much more reasonable point.

It also depends on species. Some fish are more sensitive to higher temps.
I don't know about the Bala shakes but in sure the blood parrots and convicts are fine.
In my area we were 100+ for four consecutive weeks and my tanks were around the same temp as yours. Only tank I was worried about was my Cory cat tank.

This! Just a normal fan. If it goes above 90 degrees not sure if the fish will survive.

Hello; Over 50+ years my tanks have gotten up in temp during the summer months many times. The best answer has already been given, to have plenty of aeration (bubblers).

Having lived in several places without AC, it was not uncommon for tank temps to approach 90F. A few years ago in my current home( the only place with central air I have ever had) we had a series of over 100 degrees F days nd hot nights. My AC was down at the time as I was in the process of repairing the ductwork. House got up to 95F inside as well as the tanks. My fish survived.

Over the years I have moved to species that tolerate the higher temps well. This just makes sense to me as opposed to trying to fight the typicial conditions I have year to year. I have also done this with regard to my water. I just do not try to keep fish that do not tolerate my water.

On very warm days I will float some ice in the tanks. I have done it a few ways from simply dumping it from an ice tray when i was on well water to freezing some tap water in a freezer bag and floating the bag.

Good luck
