So the other day i was watching youtube videos of fish tanks and i saw someone had a bunch of dried leaves in their tank and bichirs in the tank were swimming through them and eating.

I asked the poster whats up with water quality from the leaves and i was told the leaves have some anti bacterial and anti fungal properties.

Upon further research im reading some articles about how they mimic black water conditions and just plain natural environments where fish inhabit. Anyone else know more about this? sounds interesting and if i can make my fish happier im all for it. They say the leaves just dissapear over time and i see that happening, but also it turns your water really brown from tannis but i have drift wood in my tank so im already cool with brown water.

heres the video that started it all

Keta Pang, aka indian almond leaves, fish breeders in asia have been using them forever.most if not all Thai betta breeders use them, i've used them on my rbp's , among other species.you can buy them on ebay, and I believe hikari makes a keta pang extract similar to black water extract/black water expert.they do completely dissolve over time.

do a forum title search on 'leaves' or google it.. they're probably Indian Almond, or ketapang. not sure if I spelled it right, and there might be more kinds.
