like the title says it developed of the past 24 hours not sure what it is hopefully someone can help me out? please and thank you

are you refering to the black spot, and is it a piece of rock or shell? They like to carry stuff around.

Is it losing spines?

yea its the black spot its nothing its carrying the spines around that area are missing, is it common for them to lose their spines theres nothing in the tank that would attack him

The can loose the spines pretty easily, especially if the water qaulity is bad or they are in poor health.

+1 to the above...you shouldnt notice them shedding spines (at least at a noticeable rate) unless something is wrong.

does the area turn black when they shed spines? my water params are all looking good

I honestly dont know. I have never kept them, just know what I have read as I try to become more knowledgeable with saltwater. Have you tried brushing up on the articles in Wet web media? They typically have a ton of good information and pictures when it comes to diagnosing issues.
