I have a decent size tank its smaller then 40 gallons and slightly over stocked. most of its inhabitants are varies juvenile cichlids. i have algae eaters and a pleco. it has been established for about 6 months, but i have yet to see any algae in the tank except on very small part of the heater. is there a problem with my tank or are the algae eaters doing an awesome job? from varies posts i have seen, algae is usually present by now. my water is crystal clear and i do regular water changes, could there still be a problem with my water or tank?

What was your purpose to have algae eating fish? I see a magnet glass cleaner so I assume you use it often.
cleaning the glass with that magnet often never lets any algae on the glass get started. Your algae eating fish are keeping the decor clean. Can't you people be satisfied? Its not unusual for no algae in a tank if condition are right. My 300 gallon tank been running as fresh water for 9 years it has no algae.

No need to be aggressive.it was a honest question to find out if I had done underlying issue I didn't know I had.apart from that thanks for the information

Lol @ the first reply.
if your lighting isn't the kind to help plants grow and no natural sunlight falls on the tank, neither plants nor green algae will grow much.
in that case, if your water had too much waste nutrients then ugly brown algae would be more likely to show the problem.
since you have fish that eat algaes, it's hard to say 100% whether your tank 'might' foster a bit of green algae.
;-)

Thanks spoiler.that info was most helpful. No live plants and mostly indirect sunlight. I had a little brown algae a few months back and picked up my suckers haven't seen a problem yet.was just wondering how my tank chemistry has been
