whats up with the emperor 400

i always wondered why my Emperor 400 never releases more water. I used to have a the penguin 350 and that filter used to blast out the water straight into the tank.Like my emperor slowly releases the water back into the tank and i showed a pic to show you what i mean. Ever since i bought this filter, water has been slowly coming out the filter,almost like dripping back into the tank. the wheel's spin at a rapid speed but hardly any water comes out the filter. is this normal or is something wrong? Shouldn't it be blasting the water back into the tank?

Thats about normal. we have 6 of those and all are about the same. The lower the water level the less it flows tho
 
I have one as well. Make sure the intake tube is pushed all the way down. Some times it won't make a good seal which will restrict flow. Spray bar behind the bio wheels adj?
 
Although I don't have an Emperor 400, I have both a Penguin 330 and 350 running and they have at least 3X the flow of that. That filter looks clogged. How does it flow if you take the filter cartriges out?

I have one as well. The lower the water level, the slower the flow. If you were to fill your tank to within 1" from the top, that thing will crank out the water flow.
 
I think they all flow like that because mine does the same thing, despite cleaning it, I've compared it to others like AC's and they flow a lot slower.
 
What type of media are you filling the filter up with? That could have an effect on flow rate. I have used emperor 400 for years. How fast do you expect the flow to be? Do you expect it to shoot out like the Niagra waterfalls?

I have owned a few Penguins. Personally, I would never buy Penguins again due to their noisey impellars.
 
I use one of these filters on my take also. I have a question for everyone. Is their any thing different that could be done as to what filter is used in the Emp? I find myself spending lots of $$$ on replacing the filters about every 45 days or so. Whaty type of medi do you guys use in the Emp also?

we buy the blue/white filter media and cut it to size and use rubber bands to hold it onto the plastic. (we use the store bought filters, use them up and cut off the filter media with a razor, clean out the charcoal and use the plastic part) Much cheaper. we also put charcoal in a stocking and place it in the filter resivor. Pays off when you have 5 400s and a 280. thats 11 filters a month
