Hey, my name is mitch, I'm new to this site and also pretty new to the fish hobby. My first tank and set of fish is still my current set up. 38 gallon tank with 2x iridescent sharks, 1x redtail shark and 4x tiger barbs. .. I plan to soon add two green tiger barbs and something else interesting. maybe an oscar or somethnig aggresive. Any opinions on this would be great. well anyways, just stopping in here to say hi to everyone.

yah from people that have owned them i've discovered rarely to iri's reach 3 feet in captivity. from a breeder that has them i got the impression they usually get to 18-24 inch's max before they die. and also that that takes years and years. which is lots of time for me to up my tank. for now i want something cool to add. it will be a good while before they all out grow the tank. i also have another post i jsut put up asking about feeding my sharks. check it out. info would be great.

welcome to mfk Mitch,... nice collection you have going.. i love those sharks... i have the columbian sharks which have very similiar personalities except mine needed to go into brackish water as they matured.. yours i believe get to be a foot in size in the home aquarium and even larger in the wild.. post up some pics when you can,.. very nice to meet you... if you have any questions let me know..i looked up a little info on those sharks... Formerly P. sutchi, the Iridescent Shark is one of the worst fish for beginners, yet is commonly seen in just about every fish shop in North America. Young specimens must be kept in groups; older ones don't need the company of their own kind as much. These fish must have very fast-flowing water and quick, schooling tankmates such as Tinfoil Barbs or Bala Sharks to help make the fish feel more at home. Subdue light levels and provide plenty of open swimming space. These fish will accept most floating foods, and have a real taste for earth worms. They startle easily and it's rare to see a mature specimen without a damaged snout to some degree. They are passive and non-aggressive. It would be a good idea to put some sort of foam padding on the inside ends of the aquarium when the fish reaches a length of more than 8 inches. Iridescent Sharks don't usually grow to more than 18 inches in home aquariums. As they mature, they lose their horizontal stripes.
