My aro is in a 220g tank but when ever I'm close to the tank she like to follow me and when I get down to her eye level she likes to get a closer look and swims backwards a lot. And when she does the ends of her gills curl forward.

I've had LFS tell me that it's totally normal since its the softest part of the gills.... But I don't really trust what they tell me. Was thinking that it was flip gill but maybe it's normal?

Same here. It should be fine as long as the water stays clean and well oxygenate, it won't get gill curl.
