What's with all this does my fish have potential, is he a stunner?!?

Seems pointless to me. It’s always hard to tell, but common sense says colorful juvi should mean colorful adult. But whatever, people get impatient w/ slow growth. Not me. I’ll probably have these fish for 10 years plus, so I have time :) I bought them from good sources so I know they’ll turn out great.

I think most of those threads are people that think they have something special but are scared to brag to much because they are afraid someone’s going to say not.
I think they are seeking praise for their fish.

I think you're spot on with that. People just want someone to say "wow your fish is so beautiful" for the most part. Which isn't a bad thing, but they'd get the same response if they made a "look at my fish" thread I bet.

I've asked people in the past if they think my fish will turn out like their fish (specifically my GT) because their fish are beautiful and I'd never had a GT before, but I never made a "does she have potential" thread because I already thought she was pretty, even if other people don't think so I think she is so screw other peoples opinions. :)

I assume it’s someone who is kicking themselves for only getting one instead of a group and now left with a single specimen, seeking validation that they did alright

In some cases it's people who have never kept a particular species and don't know if their juvenile is likely to be an exceptional breeding specimen. Sometimes an experienced eye can spot that potential.

I must agree with the above. Some people tend to gush about their fish and want to hear that they look good etc. Same with their kittens or kids (Aren't they so cute??) etc. Maybe we should make a thread on letting your fish hit their potential :p

Exactly. You can't generalize everyone's reasons.

Not everyone posts a thread about it, but don't tell me you've never bought a new fish, been excited about it, then looked at threads, photos, and video, drooling and hoping yours turns out that good. Sure, some people keep it to themselves but some just want that extra reassurance.

Then again, if no one here was willing to be a showoff, that would eliminate an awful lot of threads.
