I never knew there was a fish like that. honestly i think those and the tiger fish are really ugly. but i know nothing about them. why do so many people like to keep them? i just don't get it. they aren't colorful or interesting IMO, so what does everyone like about them?

As in Payara? Really really cool. I think completely different than what is usually out there to buy and keep.

yeah i saw a few have big teeth but otherwise they dont have nice fins or anything. why do people like them. also arent they expensive at that?

great character, awesome to watch eat and just not the common oscar or pacu

plus everyone like diff things

let me guess you like colors!!!
so african cichlids is gonna be your route ?

plus its a hobby
everyone wants to accomplish a goal somewhere along the lines

I think we all look for something different as tank inhabitants. Not my thing, but I could see devoting a tank to something that looks so devious and evil. It sure would be a conversation piece.

Talking about colors, I was seriously considering devoting a 135g to a pair of breeding Festae's. Holy crap, they sound mean. Africans? Chaa!

they are monster fish for monster keepers.....

Different strokes for different folks. I dont know what fish you are into but these fish and their whole familyis quite interesting to me ,I am mesmerized by their teeth alone maybe because for years I have kept fish with no visible teeth let alone fangs.I havent even gotten around to keeping an Armatus yet but I have kept their more beautiful cousin [Redtail Payara] and Rhaphiodons currently.I am someone who never really was into silvery fish until now,but I can kind of see where you are coming from because there are certain types of fish that I dont care for such as Flowerhorns and most hybrid fish.

I have an even better question...why would anyone keep a goldfish? one color, not very active, no personality, and they dont even eat other fish...yet they are the most common fish around! I think we are the sane ones for liking somthing different.
