Doing a water change now, noticed this. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, nitrates are less than 20ppm, pH is around 7.6-7.8. fish shows no stress, or any other health issue.

Took me a while to notice anything lol. Still not sure if I’m seeing it right but could it possibly be gill curl? I don’t know much about the disease so I’m not sure.

Thanks, it's really hard to see. I should have circled it. I looked up gill curl, looks like it's the top that curls, not sure if this is minor version of it.

Well hill curl is when the tissue curls, when I see photos of it I always see the gill plate curled but I think that’s extreme condition. I can’t think of any other disease or problem that would cause something like this to happen. It says it in the name… curled gill.

Looks more like a defect from bad genetics than anything else. If the fish is acting normal then I’d leave alone and keep doing what ur doing. See what the others have to say.

Thanks. I think bad genetics is pretty probable, given how inbred these fish are.

How long have you had this fish for? Has I always had this or is this a new problem

I have had him for 1.5 year, since he was 3 inches. It's new, now to me it appears overgrown part though.
