I dont know whats wrong with him, i just noticed this the other day and i figured it was just a scratch. But now i see this white thing coming out of it. Its like coming out of the very bottom of his gill. I remember a thread about anchor worm, is this what it is? He's still eating very well on guppies and freeze dried shrimp. Ammonia - 0, Nitrate - 15-20, Nitrite 0. hes in a planted tank kept at 78 degrees with a ph of 6.5.

Not an anchor worm but ifwild caught bichirs often carry flukes and nematodes, IO suggest you try a salt and metrodazinol treatment before anything else, it often helps and seldom hurts

thank you, would trying to remove it be a bad idea since it isnt an anchor worm?

I don't know, try to PM Beblondie, she is the bichir guru. Seriously, if it involves bichirs she will know.

thanks again for the input guppy, havent seen u on the forums lately glad to see u back. This will be the second time youve saved my fish, your ick sitcky pwns :headbang2

thanks again bro

How long has it had this?

kinda hard to tell if it's anchor worm, though it seems to fit the bill. in any case, it appears to be a parasite of some sort from the pic. it's not the so-called 'flukes' commonly seen on wild bichirs as those are very tiny white hair like worms.

have you added new fish lately? what was the first sign of symptom?
