I have had this fish for about 3 months now and recently the discus fish have been fighting and he bent one or two of his spine and now they have straightened up and these wire white balls have arrived. Is it fungus?Whats wrong with my discus fish ??

I have had this fish for about 3 months now and recently the discus fish have been fighting and he bent one or two of his spine and now they have straightened up and these wire white balls have arrived. Is it fungus?
Increase water changes and substrate cleanning/filter maint. add aquarium salt. 1 tablspoon per every 5 gallons of water.
