IMG_7920.JPG IMG_7922.JPG he has deteriorated quickly. tofay I noticed he has a chunk out of his fin (he is alone in the tank) and he has white fuzzy stuff on his face and tail. Also over his eyes. Please help.

I have only had this fish for a little over a week. He was fine when I brought him home and put in a tank that I have removed a other healthy fish from. I have no clue what is going on with him.

Also indicate what if anything you have used as treatment (like salt, antibiotics, anti fungal, etc.) and for how long.

Although some people may ID the issue from the picture, the above may help them decide the best approach to take.

I am brand new to all this and I do have a ph testing kit I haven't done it yet. But might be able to later today. So far just upped the temp and did 1 tsp salt to every 5 gallons yesterday

How long has the tank been cycled? How big is the tank and type of filtration? Do you have a water conditioner that neutralizes ammonia like Prime?

If you cant test your water with a liquid test kit find a fish store that can. The numbers for ammonia and nitrite must be 0ppm, nitrates should be higher than 0ppm. Make sure the test using liquid tests and not strips.

I have a tester kit just never opened it. We are t home much right now due to a time crunch at work but will try tonight if I don't get home too late. Tank has been up and going for months with a different fish in it. Just a regular top of the tank double filter is what I use. When I do water changes (once per week) I just use a start right solution.

Do a 50 % water change, turn you temperature up to 85-86. Then add salt. The next day he should look fine. If not and you still see the white fuzzy stuff then your fish has a fungus which you will need to treat with meds. So your going to have to hold off on feeding him so he let the meds work
