Seems like all my fish are getting sick lately :(. Yesterday my Gibby was fine and completely healthy but I come home and his dorsal fin a a huge, deep tear plus a more shallow tear he's had for a long time. I thought maybe one of my cichlids got to him but I just found feces in the cave he normally hides in and they're thick, thorny looking, and big! I haven't fed yet so I don't know if he's eating but I'm hoping there's nothing wrong with him. Is there anything wrong with him or do I need to worry?

dang, Id seperate him asap. Is there anything aggressive that could attack him in the tank?

Only thing that's ever attacked him is my male C cutteri but that hasn't happened in over a week since my pair stopped breeding they got way less aggressive. I don't have any tanks I can put him in that he wouldn't eat other fish or get sicker in :(.

Well he got better (again) and today got worse (again). He's behaving and eating normally but his fins (mainly dorsal and caudal but also pectorals) look all shredded! He's hiding in his cave eating an algae wafer now so the picture isn't the best but I'll get another when he comes out. Would it be worth it to soak a water in flagil in fear he might have worms or does that have negative side effects if that isn't it?

Do you give him any fresh veggies? His thorny poop may be an indication that he is getting constipated from only algae wafers. Get that dude some cucumber and let him purge himself. Then keep an eye out for aggressors. My tanks go through spurts where aggression between plecs gets high, fins get torn and then there is several weeks of peace. Maybe the cuteri are in that cycle?

Oh yeah forgot to update: that "thorny poop" was actually a plant root which I'm not sure how the HECK got in there with no live plants in that tank whatsoever. I've been regularly feeding him zucchini for the past week or so every 3-4 nights with algae wafers and shrimp pellets in between.

Deworm your tank, if he's eating and that thin he has a gut full of worms.
