just got this fish from a LFS that did a toyin order for me about a week or so ago, and at the time i took the fish home he was fine, but after about 5 days he developed these white patches on his body, looks like slime coat loss but i have nothing in the tank that would suck away the slime coat like a pleco...

the LFS got in 3 of these weeksii's and i noticed one of them had these patches when we took him out of the box he was shipped in, and the other two were fine, then i noticed 2 or 3 days later the other one had the same kind of white blotches, and now a week later mine has it.... ive attached a blurry picture of it but i think its clearly visible, can someone tell me what this is and how i should go about treating it? i dont have an extra tank to put it in at the moment

Does it scratch itself on rocks? , you should isolate it asap looks like ich. Then observe the others if they are infected cause ich is a prasite that infects the whole tank...thers a thread about treating ich in the fish disease section...

definitely without a doubt NOT ich. ich looks like little white spots on the fish, this looks more like loss of slimecoat or ammonia burn, but ive ruled out ammonia burn since it seems like it got infected from the other weeksii that came from the same shipment (and my water quality is top notch at the moment)

if you say so but i would isolate it just to be sure, put it in another tank and add some melafix to bring back the slime coat and no lights on the tank to reduce stress cause stress affects the production of slime coat...

treat the whole tank with primafix it cant do any harm

it might have got it scales ripped off when they got shipped. give it some alo vera and it should be fine. well thats what mine looked like when he scratched a lava rock in the tank a nd the alo helped.

i have had the same experience,my bichir got it from a feeder guppy, but mine survived..

check pH and amonia level ... a large water change should take care of the problem ... monitor the water closely, feed light and perhaps wash off your media

hmm at first i woulda said it scraped against something just because of the position and shape of those blotches...

is there any redness in the white areas? and have the white blotches get larger and spreading?
