whats wrong with the glass to my aquarium?

hi guys i bought a 180 gallon about a month ago of crags list for really cheap the back pain of glass and front pain are spotless but the sides look like there oxidizes im guessing best wait to explain it...it looks cloudy in spots but you can feel it like its on the glass.... does anybody know how to get rid ofit or what it is worst comes to worst ill paint it but im trying to avoid painting the sides.......thanks guys
 
Are you sure it isn't scratches?

Most likely an area where silicone used to be, a razor as stated above is your best bet.
 
you guys are the best lol .....scraping it with a razor never came to mind because i thought it was a defect in the class or a chemical reaction in the glass but it my be silicone from who ever re siliconed it....thanks again guys ........not going to do the whole tank till tomorrow cause its late but i did about a 3'' by 3'' square and it came rite off
 
yeah when I got my 225 I had to resilicone the whole thing, so strip it down into huge sheets of 5x2 and 3x2 and 5x3 pieces of glass, strip ALL remaining silicone off and re do the whole thing.

new silicone won't stick to the old stuff so you have to remove ALL traces of it if you want to completely reseal the aquarium :)
