Howdy.

Any ideas whats wrong with this front? I bought 3 off a mate two days ago. The other two are fine, as it the slightly larger one I bought from the shop, also 2 days ago. This one however, has its tail clamped in, and just doesn't seem to be too happy. I've inculded a photo of the setup too, so let me know what you think, and if you think this could be the problem. Ive not seem this one being picked on particularly, so I'm a bit stumped. All the other fish are peaceful mbuna's, which haven't caused any trouble for any of the fronts....

Cheers

Yes the rest of the 30-ish fish are mbuna, but I've not seen them chase the frontosa, or harass them in any other way. The other thing is, the other 3 fronts are fine, including the smallest one (smaller than this one).
I should probably start looking for someone to take them off me!

x2 ...so sad seeing Frontosas mixed with Malawis man. :nilly:

I know you not supposed to, but i've only got one tank, and I really wanted some. The thing tat convinced me was my mate (the guys I got the fronts off)- he's mixed fronts, mbuna, peacocks and other tangs (duoisi etc....) into the same sized tank as I've got, and it all seemed to be working fine.
I'm gonna advertise them now, to see if anyone will take them....

It can be done, it's just my personal belief that it shouldn't be done. Frontosas develop with age those long fin extensions that make them look so majestic. You'll never get that in a community tank.

Frontosas can be mixed with Altolamprologus Calvus, Ctenochromis Horeii, Lobochilotes Labiatus ..etc, but not the rowdy Mbunas ...or Tropheus. One reason for it: Mbuna/Tropheus are herbivorous and you'll never be able to give your fronts what they need (higher protein content foods), and Tropheus (as much as I love them) are the biggest fin nippers around.

Gotcha. I've posted an ad to try and sell them. Paid £35 for them, so just want to get this back. Will eventualy try and get a frontosa only tank! Is there anyway I can protect the fronts until I get rid of them?

P.S. - out of the blue....do I need to provide flat rocks to get my mbuna to breed?

The front won't get killed, he or she is just protecting the fins from the nips.
