Whats you opinion?

Well he has been alive for three years according to the article, they must be doing something right at least. Be nice if he had more space tho..

I want to make one, but I'd hate to get it wrong and suffocate the life in there. Does it have to be milfoil or would hornwort, elodea, etc. work?

I'll make mine with scuds, deep sand and a small piece of elodea and let you know what happens. Doing it now. I'll also add some filter muck, a piece of crushed coral gravel for buffering, and I'll be using well water to get this party started.

ok thanks, I thought it was cool but then again its small and if one thing goes wrong, the plant dies or the snail dies then its all downhill, I wonder how they stopped the snail from multiplying. But then its say the shrimp are only supposed to live 3 months in a biosphere, isnt there typical lifespan more than that.

3 months? I didn't see that in any of the articles I read. Some are saying 8 years or more for one shrimp.

The snails should be reproducing the whole time. I think the shrimp keeps them in check by eating them. Am I wrong?

I'll be using a species of snail that stays very tiny and reproduces very slowly. That should protect against having too many minerals locked up in snail shells. I'll probably add only two or three berried female scuds...time for my own thread!
