That's cuz I just saw this topic.
My utilities, since I left the left coast, are 1/4 of what they were. I only have a couple of individually heated tanks. The rest are in the hatchery where I heat the room instead of the tanks. My utility bill to heat over 100 tanks runs about $120/month. It took some doing to get it that low, though.
I replaced all 19 windows with insulated double vinyl low-E windows. I added a total of 1ft of R-19 23 insulation in the attic. Plus added blow-in insulation to fill the rafters. Then laid 3/4" floor boards down to help the insulation plus give me storage space. I drilled and injected expansion foam insulation into all the outer walls. I replaced the hollow-core doors with insulated doors. All in all, it ran me about 10 grand to fully insulate my 7500+ sq/ft hatchery building. With all this insulation, my gas furnace only kicks on for 1 to 2 hours, in the coldest of winter, out of evey 24 hours.
