What's your experiences with ''x' fish has breed before'?

Guppies and cherry shrimps and similar species not withstanding, what are your takes on pairs of fish that has breed before and is then sold? I.e. when you get them back home, do you find that they stay as the pair and re-breed immediately? Or does it take a while? Or do they seem to just forget that they ever breed together? Any differences in experiences between placing them in their own tank or community tanks? Differences between different species?

I'm just curious as to what everybody experienced with fish that breed before...

It depends on the fish you have and the bond between them. The pair of Angelfish I had were really bonded but very aggressive towards each other. Even when I seperated them for weeks at a time they would go back together like everything was normal.
