I recently bought a couple of baby Gold Severums to add to a grow out tank. When I saw them at the LFS, there were only 3 left. Two appeared healthy and hearty and one appeared week. I felt bad about leaving the weakling alone and bought all three.
The two hearty specimens have been doing great, but the weakling started to fail not long after adding him to the tank. He started floating on his side about two days after I brought him home and over the next few days, he was often seen wedged between the fake plants. I thought for sure he was going to die quickly, but to my surprise, he kept fighting.
I was concerned he couldn't get his share of food, so I made a floating hospital room out of an old plastic container. My thought was he could be kept in a controlled area and shielded from the other fish without the stress of moving to a new tank. He's been swimming upright the last few days and I'm hopeful he will recover.
The point of this story is this - I've become attached to the little guy. Every day, I find myself checking on him whenever I can. Each time I see him swimming upright, I feel like I'm doing something right. He still has a long way to go, but it got me to thinking - How many other feel good stories are out there. Some fish have personalities, others are just fish. I like my Oscars and each has its own personality, but I couldn't tell the Neons in my daughter's tank apart if my life depended upon it. Do you have a fish you are partial to? And if so, why? Or maybe you just have a good story about a fish you saved. Does anyone have a story they'd like to share?
