I'm going to be setting up a 75 for cichlids and am going to use limestone and river rock that I can get for nothing or near nothing.

What's your favorite rock formations?

I was thinking of having two in the back corners and low rubble in the middle.

What do you think for mbuna's?

Lots of caves and hiding places plus a substrate they can dig in. I use driftwood which them seem to like.

Lots of people prefer Texas Holey Rock, but you can use anything so long as you make the caves and hiding spots as mentioned above. Go with what you like as you're the one that has to look at it.

I like Lace rock i think it looks awesome with some algae grown on it.

lace rock is nice because even when it gets algae formations it looks fine. texas holey rock is really nice looking but a pain to keep clean.

be careful with driftwood, it will lower your ph.

I now use texas holey rock and lack rock, but anything will work. Outside of THR and Lace rock, I likes flat, sheet type rocks to make ledges. Be careful when building them. If you don't do it right, they will fall over when the fish dig. Photo threads of my African tanks are in my signature.
